Opera Queensland’s Vision: A Boundless Landscape of Opera Experiences reflects the richness, expanse and diversity of both the operatic art form and Queensland itself; while our Mission: To reflect, celebrate and enrich life in our communities articulates the important role the arts play in contemporary Queensland life.
One of Australia’s major performing arts companies, OperaQ serves Metropolitan Brisbane and regional/remote Queensland through the development and presentation of opera projects that reflect our core values of Excellence, Community and Adventure. Three intersecting spheres of engagement are central to achieving our goals:
- In a range of theatres and venues across Metropolitan Brisbane we present grand opera of excellence and bold creative adventures;
- We tour extensively throughout Regional Queensland, creating unique and innovative opportunities for regional artists and audiences to experience opera; and
- OperaQ’s Open Stage unit creates first-rate education and community engagement programs for all ages.
Located in the heart of Brisbane’s South Bank cultural precinct, OperaQ enjoys creative partnerships with Griffith University and multiple arts organisations, festivals and presenters across and beyond Queensland.
This season is your season.
Opera is changing and it’s an exciting opportunity for audiences of all ages to try new experiences and new venues. In season 2015, OperaQ presents a schedule of events that will delight, surprise and challenge seasoned opera lovers and first-timers alike.
In 2015 audiences have experienced a range of delights from the classic La traviata in the Lyric Theatre to a summer afternoon of pop-up performances at Cloudland in the Valley. There was opera outdoors at Jimbour – a morning of gorgeous arias with some popular local artists and the blockbuster, highly acclaimed season of Bernstein’s Candide which saw audiences on their feet crying, wolf-whistling and screaming at the final curtain call.
If you loved Candide, then you’ll absolutely ADORE the exciting opera experiences we’re serving up for the remainder of the year.
Cloud Song is back by popular demand and with a brand new line-up, we’re taking over Cloudland nightclub for another stylish session on Sunday 30 August.
Hot on the heels of Cloud Song is Macbeth, Renée Fleming, From Broadway to La Scala and the culminating event of the season, the unforgettable OperaQ Gala. Join the OperaQ family at our main fundraising event of the year for a stunning celebration of all things opera – a great night out for an even greater cause!
Join us in 2015 for MORE new shows, new venues and new experiences.
